Come and join us for our Yoga- Climbing course in the Hautes Alpes, renowed for its sunshine and a paradise for outdoor sports fanatics!

Through the practice of asanas (postures) inspired primarily from the rigourous Iyengar yoga tradition, you shall develop a deeper understanding of your range of movement, of your physical self in space and your postural alignment. Through this developing sense of your own body you will be able to improve your coordination and movement in every day life but also on the rock.
Breath awareness and breathing exercises will become a valuable tool to aide in times of difficulty giving you practical means to relax and bring your emotions under control on and off the rock.

Moreover, active recovery will repair your body from any excessive strain endured during the day’s climbing while preparing your body and mind for the challenges of the next day.

This course is designed for:

Yoga:

  • Beginners wishing to discover yoga for the first time
  • and/or, those with previous experience wishing to deepen their practice.

Climbing: previous experience required with a minimum sport climbing level of 5c+ lead climbing

  • Intermediate and experienced climbers wishing to improve both technically and mentally on the rock
  • those who are already working with the concepts of “onsighting” and “working” a route.

LOCATION:

The course takes place in the Briançon area in the department of the Hautes Alpes, a place known for its sunshine and blue skies 400 days a year! In summer, the alpine climate makes it an ideal spot for rock climbing. The multitude of sport climbing crags, nestled in the forests and alpine meadows, with different orientations and profiles, make it one of the best summer climbing spots in Europe.

Throughout the course we shall explore different climbing areas, including: Mont Dauphin, Rue des masques (in Guillestre), Freissinières, Les Traverses, le rocher Baron, Les Ayes, Névache, Freissinières…)

Accommodation is not organized by Salamander Climbing, however there are lots of Gites and Campsites to choose from. However, the yoga sessions shall take place in l'Argentière-la-béssée (05) so ideally you will be staying in Argentière or Vigneaux.

SCHEDULE:

We shall climb at different locations each day depending on the orientation of the crag, the weather conditions and the objectives of the participants set the night before.

1.5hr of yoga in the morning as a warm up for the day or in the evening as recovery and relaxation after the day’s climbing.

Day 3: the yoga session is longer, lasting between 2-2.5 hrs where we revisit in more detail what has already been seen earlier in the week. This will be an opportunity to gain a little more confidence and autonomy in your practice, allowing you to introduce some basic asana and yoga sequences into your everyday life.

Anne suggests going to do the via ferrate of Freissinières or to take a days rest from climbing on this day.
